Tractor-Trailer Driver Loses Control and is Injured

On Wednesday, September 14, a tractor-trailer driver lost control of his rig and crashed on Interstate 70.

According to Maryland State Police, the accident happened on westbound Interstate 70 just east of Big Pool near the 13 mile marker, at around 9.00 a.m. When police arrived the truck was on its side and they freed the driver, Jason Gillard from Texas, and he was taken by ambulance and then helicopter to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

At this time, investigators do not know what caused the driver to lose control of the rig which belonged to Wayne W. Sell Trucking Corp. of Sarver, Pennsylvania and hauling a large, unidentifiable metal object on the trailer. The truck ended up in a wooded area off the right side of the highway and traffic was reduced to a single lane while rescue crews working to remove the vehicle. By the end of the afternoon, all lanes were reopened.
