Hagerstown Man Dies in Motorcycle Accident

On Thursday morning, June 23 a man died in a motorcycle accident near Williamsport.

According to authorities, the accident happened at around 4.30 a.m. just west of the Rust-Oleum plant at the intersection of Governor Lane Boulevard and Industrial Lane near Williamsport. James Frederick Kershner, aged 61 was riding his motorcycle when he collided with a sport utility vehicle.

He was transported to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The road was closed for almost five hours while the accident was investigated and now the evidence will be evaluated before releasing the cause of the crash.

Kershner was born in Hagerstown and was a 1972 graduate of South Hagerstown High School, and at the time of his death was employed by Titan Transfer Inc. of Williamsport, MD.

Motorcycle Crash Sends Person to Hospital

On Monday afternoon, April 18 a motorcycle crash sent a person to hospital.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office the accident happened at around 3 p.m.in the 13300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue north of Hagerstown near the entrance to the Volvo Group Trucks plant.

Stanley Paul Pavlosky, 60, was riding a 2006 Honda motorcycle and riding south on Pennsylvania Avenue when he collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by 66 year old Donald Leroy Crum of Hagerstown, that pulled onto the roadway from Volvo Way.

When help arrived, a motorcycle and a helmet were lying on the sidewalk in the northbound lane of Pennsylvania Avenue or U.S. 11. There was also a two wheeled motorcycle trailer at the scene with an American flag on the back.

Pavlosky was airlifted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, apparently due to the extent of his injuries and his age.

The Sheriff’s Office is still carrying out an investigation and so far Crum has been charged with failure to yield the right of way.

Hit and Run Driver Sentenced to Jail

On Wednesday, December 16, a driver of a vehicle who killed a motorcyclist in a hit and run in Hagerstown was sentenced to 13 years in state prison.

The incident took place in September 2014, when 50 year old Nathanial W. Hart of Shippensburg, Pa. struck and killed 33 year old Darren E. Reeder on his motorcycle in in the intersection of West Wilson Boulevard and Virginia Avenue in Hagerstown. Hart did not stop but fled the scene as he was a repeat offender with several previous violations and was also driving without a license. He had also been seen leaving a liquor store minutes before the crash although there is no proof he was drunk at the time.

Hart pleaded guilty to negligent manslaughter by vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing serious injury or death. He was sentenced to 13 years in state prison with five years suspended and ordered to pay $2,277 in restitution to Reeder’s family, many of whom were in attendance in the Hagerstown courtroom.
