Childproofing Your Home

Once you have a child that begins to crawl or walk you need to take extra precautions around the home to make sure it is a safe environment for children and has childproofing.

Firstly go through every room to ensure that potentially dangerous items are out of the reach of children or stored in a locked cupboard. This would include cleaning products, bleach, detergents, drain cleaner, furniture polish, hygiene products, paint, paint cleaning materials, nail polish remover, perfumes, mouthwash, insecticides, medicines, and lamp oil.

Check your houseplants as some may be harmful and poisonous and make sure they are no small objects available for children to eat. This would include buttons, beads, batteries, coins, pins and screws. Also stop using fridge magnets or put them high up where a child cannot reach them.

Alcohol should be in a locked cabinet and any unfinished drinks should be emptied right away as alcohol can be very poisonous to young children.
